(Ab - Aboriginal + combine) Aboriginal/Colonial
A work produced from a dream in which ‘Abini’ (a doll) appeared.

In the dream the doll’s head was a lot larger, as well; a live pig’s nose was attached to the face of the doll. On the model, the pig’s nose is made from clay and fastened around the face with elastic.

The doll is dressed in a sombre blue ‘prison - like’ dress, plain and ill fitting with frilly white anklet socks and long underpants on which are sewn small green flowers. Just above the ankle socks are knitted red and blue bands.

On the feet are kangaroo slippers made from kangaroo hide created to look like small heads with long stiff ears.

This work suggests an amalgamation of both cultures reflecting complex belief systems intrinsically mismatched, evident by the manner in which the doll is dressed.
