'Halflight'

(Notes on my Father)

Halflight is something we see and then it lingers, falls short of what we want it to be. It is always something else, never firm or true only half of these things and always only ever that.

My father was a tailor who loved all forms of fabric. The fabric in this body of work is plaid, recessive, understated, of lines overlapping. The colours in this exhibition reflect the tones of the tweeds and of the British industrial working class. He owned the popular car of the time, the Morris Minor. I remember the wood grain on the dashboard, the fawn colour interior and the unique green of the exterior complete with wooden trim.

The concept is essentially a memorial evoking a reconstructed memory of the one occasion that my father and I met. There is no light quite like daylight. In day light there is truth in halflight there is memory.
