The Young Girls are a series of eleven paintings. Cumulatively they take the form of a dream state in an exploration of themes of isolation and abandonment, of the subjugation, dislocation and transformation of the mind and body and the significance of spatial relationships. Recurrent ‘states of being’ are formed that reference my own childhood and adolescence.

The young girl waited
She never expected to wait so long
Time was late
It happened that she had one eye open
Life had taken her this far?
Her spirit was rising
Feeling an encounter with the past
Moving on
Bound for
224 White Facial Tissues
Crying for the future
Living with the past
The Harpsichord has a wonderful sound
And the child has yet to be
The great de-stabilizer for her
A realization
A moment of peace
The resignation
It’s the nature of the beast.
